I honestly cannot believe some of the presumptive, cocky diaries I have read, many of which have made the rec list stating, among other things, that Hillary has no chance to win the nomination and should drop out, cannot possibly take over the delegate lead and should drop out, etc etc, with the common denominator being that she should drop it. Well I've got news for you Obama supporters and Hillary detractors (they aren't necessarily the same thing): this race is not over, Hillary can still win the nomination, and, perhaps shocking to those who have read diaries of week past, Hillary can still obtain a pledged delegate lead going into the convention. And yes, I'm an Obama supporter.
Case in point: there's a diary on the rec list right now as I write this that states (emphasis mine):
"If Clinton wins all 4 states today she only gains 20 or so delegates. Obama's already got a 100+ delegate lead. Add 50 supers to that and it nullifies her win and puts him further ahead and pretty much out of reach even if she wins out the rest of the primaries (which she has no chance of doing)."
First off, this story of 50 supers going Obama's way is nothing more than a rumor that I haven't yet heard out of anyone's mouth outside of Brokaw's. That aside though, the more amusing thing is that directly below that statement is a delegate chart entitled "Without Michigan and Florida." Umm, have I been living in another world the past many months or has Hillary been playing as if Michigan and Florida will be seated at the convention this whole time? At the very least, in my opinion, there will be a re-vote in the two states. Here's another chart for those who have been living in the fantasy world that I've been describing:
With Florida and Michigan, Hillary, as of today, has a delegate lead! If it were my style, I'd even consider including "Breaking" in my title since this seems to be news to so many people. Those numbers don't even include today where I think we'll see Hillary net as many as ten or even fifteen delegates. Likewise, wins today will result in increased enthusiasm amongst her supporters, an influx of new fundraising, and media momentum. Note: Please don't get on my back for my prediction - it's just that, an honest prediction.
Everyone here knows that the Clintons will do everything in their power to seat the Florida and Michigan delegates, keep super delegates in their camp, and ultimately win the nomination. Why do people keep underestimating them? I for sure am not. You shouldn't either. Hit the streets, talk to your neighbors, make phone calls and all that jazz if you want to see Obama really win this nomination, because let me tell you, if Hillary does well today, this thing is far from over.
