The big lie... background on how Obama lost momentum... mud sticks...
As we see from the Young Turks video of yesterday, the smears are ongoing and have an impact on even the most Appalachian among us...

----
[T]he sound principle [is] that the magnitude of a lie always contains a certain factor of credibility, since the great masses of the people in the very bottom of their hearts tend to be corrupted rather than consciously and purposely evil, and that, therefore, in view of the primitive simplicity of their minds they more easily fall a victim to a big lie than to a little one, since they themselves lie in little things, but would be ashamed of lies that were too big. Such a falsehood will never enter their heads and they will not be able to believe in the possibility of such monstrous effrontery and infamous misrepresentation in others; yes, even when enlightened on the subject, they will long doubt and waver, and continue to accept at least one of these causes as true. Therefore, something of even the most insolent lie will always remain and stick -- a fact which all the great lie-virtuosi and lying-clubs in this world know only too well and also make the most treacherous use of.

This shows how big lies, that Obama is Muslim, he was sworn into Congress on the Koran and not the Bible, that he was raised in a Madrassa, etc., work precisely because they are outrageously false. That is, the crackers in Appalachia can't wrap their heads around the fact that the lie can be completely false, and so even if it is dismissed with facts and logic, there is a residue of doubt which remains, enough for those of the voters who make up their minds in the final days to break 3-to-1 for Clinton.
The biggest lie of this campaign, beyond the smears, is that Clinton can actually win enough delegates. For some reason math is beyond the grasp of most Americans and indeed most reporters. They just keep lying until the lie becomes so ingrained that they can steal the election, because she "deserves" it, as in "winning large states" and "being picked on by the media", Florida and Michigan votes "should count", and the superdelegates "should vote independently", etc. etc.
Unbelievable, it boggles the mind...
