Some would say worse. Daschle:
"It's comments like [Wolfson's] that make me question whether we do have the same standards," said the former Senate Majority Leader. "I don't think that you can make a statement like that and consider yourself within the bounds of civility. I mean, this shouldn't be tolerated. It's not acceptable, and it's unfortunate."
More after the jump...
This is the money quote that points out the decided difference between the way in which the Campaigns are treating each other, and the notable difference in the standards to which they hold their own:
"Well, only one person can make that decision [for Wolfson's resignation] and that's Hillary Clinton," he said. "I'm just prepared to say today that the standard by which we judge civility and the degree of acceptable behavior appears to be different in the two camps. In our case, when somebody says the wrong thing, they're gone. It appears that in their case, normal life goes on."
Now, just as a reminder, here is what Wolfson said:
"I for one do not believe that imitating Ken Starr is the way to win a Democratic primary election for president."
And here is what Power said... note the attempt to keep things off the record (an attempt that was ignored, rightly or wrongly):
"She is a monster, too -- that is off the record -- she is stooping to anything,"
I don't think Power should have resigned. I think they should have just argued that it was unfortunate that Power said something off the record and that the nature of the quote was not honored. But, at the same time, I have little problem with the Hillary as Monster meme given the nature of things she has said recently.
UPDATE, for completeness, here is Clinton's response during a press conference some have mentioned in comments:
Asked the difference between calling someone a "monster'' and comparing someone to Starr, Clinton at first said the media had made the Starr reference. Reminded that it was her spokesman who had done so, Clinton said, "One is an ad hominem attack, and one is a historical reference.''
... so I guess her campaign is spewing so much b.s. at Obama she can't keep up as to what emanates from within vs from the press. And really, would anyone else actually have come up with such nonsense?
