Just some thoughts on the developments of the past few days, to be discussed: Obama wins Wyoming, loyalty, the price of unquestioned loyalty, etc.
Follow me after the fold
Obama Snaps Clinton's Winning Streak!
Despite Clinton's comeback win of the Texas Primary, where she came from 20 points ahead a few weeks ago, to beat Obama by only a few percentage points, and despite her loss of the Texas Caucus by a much wider margin, Obama won Wyoming today and effectively snapped HRC's "winning streak".
All good things must come to an end I suppose.
Also, I'm absolutely sure the Clinton Camp have some very good reason why Wyoming voters don't matter, I just hope they didn't accidentally reveal that to Wyoming-ians before they voted!
Loyalty
There has been this talk of loyalty lately, mainly, if you won't vote for Hillary then you are not a democrat.
Well, actually, I don't care if I'm not a democrat. I'm not sure when the label of democrat became more important than democratic principles or progressive values.
But if I'm going to have to choose, I'll always pick those principles and values over enabling a politician who undermines them.
In my mind, that makes me a true democrat, a true liberal and a true progressive.
Republican Smears
There's something horribly wrong when a democratic candidate is being attacked with republican smears by another democrat. Not only is it unethical, but it doesn't make any sense in a year when the republicans are demoralized, unenthusiastic and just not very engaged. Does HRC know something I don't? Last time I checked the republicans are Not favored to win this general election for obvious reasons: the war, economy, repub-fatigue, scandals, do-nothing congress, etc.
So, why is HRC adopting Republican talking points even though those talking points are Not popular to the general public?
Why is HRC trying to frame the general election in a way that favors the Very weak position of the Republicans?
Either she truly believes the American people want to stay in Iraq and that they are right this moment cowering under their covers afraid the big bad terrorists are going to get them tonight at 3 AM
OR
She's trying to make this game hers, by any means necessary, even a de facto endorsement fo McCain is not too low for her to go.
After the events of this week, I'm convinced without a doubt HRC would rather the democratic party Lose in November than accept that she has virtually no chance of obtaining a lead in pledged delegates or a lead in popular vote. Essentially, the majority of the voters don't want her, and she doesn't care, if we don't give her what she wants she has no problem ruining it for everybody, in fact that's her plan.
You see, she can't win any more voters now, she won't overtake Obama, the only campaign left for her is electability, can she make the undecided supers believe she's more electable? Well, she can't change her negatives, and she can't change Obama's positives, but, what do you do if you can't go to the mountain? You bring the mountain to you, or whatever!
My point is, she's trying to change the dynamic to a race where she looks more electable against McCain. Hillary's now constant use of the fear card is a perfect example of my point. The majority of Americans are tired of politicians trying to scare votes out of them, and we would all like to turn the page on that nonsense! But, no, Hillary doesn't want to trun the page. You see, Hillary is only more electable if her Iraq vote looks more sensible than just stupid or opportunistic. Only in a world where the Republicans are a real threat could she possibly be seen as the more electable candidate. Only in a world where the Republicans were galvanized by a far right candidate would a just-left-of-center Democrat look like the better candidate. The problem with her framing the election in this way is that, it benefits the Republicans immensely!
And, it's sad because she would rather move the democratic party to the center and prop up the Republican party to make her look more electable than accept the fact that she can't win, not fairly, not clearly.
Well, I'm not anywhere near the center in my political beliefs, and I'm not going to start voting for moderates! And I don't remember signing some agreement to that effect when they stamped my card democrat at the poll the other day.
So, in conclusion, I have No loyalty to fake democrats, none whatsoever, and you moderate democrats, whoever you are, you are going to have to accept that. This party is no longer dominated by moderates, and we're giong to stop settling for mediocrity. The DNC needs to give me a real democrat to vote for or I will vote against them, straight ticket. My vote will matter, either way. I know some have said they will sit out if HRC's the nominee, but that's just not my style.
