...is calling independents in Pennsylvania for Obama, geting them to switch to be Democrats so that they can vote in the PA primary.
Iin 20 calls, I reached 2 Obama supporters (one of whom wants to volunteer), and they're being sent voter registration forms.
That's 2 more votes for Obama!
It's well known that a phone contact typically increases voter turnout by around 5%. (It's less effective than canvassing, which is around 8%.) In a regular phonebank, if you find a supporter, it feels good, but there's only about a 5% chance that you call is the difference between them voting and not. So you have to find around 20 supporters per extra vote.
More after the flip...
In this case, nearly every identified supporter = 1 extra vote. Meaning this calling which you can do now is nearly 20 times as effective!
And as an added bonus, PA hasn't been getting called much, so people aren't sick of it. Very polite.
The deadline to switch party affiliation in PA voter is March 24. When a supporter is identified, the Obama campaign needs the time to send out a form, then the person gets it and mails it in. In other words, sometimes around March 21 it becomes too late, and even by March 19 it's pretty hairy.
So please, if you have any time to give, hit the phones tomorrow through next Wednesday! It will be many times more effective than if you see Obama losing the week before the election and get active then!
