Although instead of coming out against a radical view, ala Pres. Clinton during his campaign, Sen. Clinton's surrogate asserts a radical, politically incorrect view which might endear her to closet and open racists.
Much has been written about whether Sen. Clinton intends to use race as an instrument of campaign policy or not. Much has also been written about the effectiveness of Pres. Clinton's 'Sista Soulja' moment where he was able to show separation from a supposed radical racial view holding minority, to his benefit among other whites. I think the second implies that the first is true. It worked for Pres. Clinton. Why shouldn't it work for Sen. Clinton?
It is interesting that racial politics arose in this campaign before Ohio and now Pennsylvania. Others have long been predicting such a moment for the Senator from NY or asserting that it has occured:

It seems that racial and political manipulation is happening in a way that might be devastating to the Democratic party. It didn't begin with Sen. Obama's campaign.
