"So this is how liberty dies, to thundering applause." Just as George Lucas took a stab at the Bush administration, the media and even the public for allowing the atrocities of the post 9/11 Bush Administration to go unchecked, I now think the same standard can be applied to the most left-wing element of the democratic party - as represented by Daily Kos and even Kos himself.
I will explain why after the fold.
I don't want to make this a lengthy sermon. There are too many of those to go around. Briefly, I thought the real strength of online communities such as this were to allow the free and open flow of ideas. To debate the issues and to help connect viewpoints from across this great nation.
Was I wrong?
It seems that the function of these communities is now much less idealistic than I realized. There seems to have risen a need to stomp out debate. To ignore facts when they don't favor your point of view. To selectively pick out what divides us, rather than what connects us. 1st we divide by Republican and Democrat, then by Change and Experience, then by White and Black. (Plus Kos seems to divide by DNC and other leadership groups within the party...A proxy war being fought within an election?)
Now we can't understand who the really nice couple that live next to us can vote Republican. They are evil. Then how can those people who have worked for our party all these years have voted for the "other" democratic candidate, they are racist/sexist. Now someone cannot even question us, or we call them names and attack them.
I came wanting debate. I get little. My DD is the same. Maybe I should go to Red State, maybe someone will debate my ideas?
So keep playing your sill strike games, or giving your cute little troll ratings. Divide, Divide, Divide.
Maybe you will win, you will have shamed and quieted all dissenters. Congratulations. You have the power now. Was it worth it?
