I normally wouldn't post something like this. But I've been afraid for the health of some Kos participants who seem to be close to hyperventilation regarding some of the recent polls. So consider this an act of compassion.
CBS Poll:: Obama Still on Top Nationally
CBS indicates that Obama has taken a hit but he still leads HRC and McBush.
If the election were held today and Obama and McCain were the candidates, 48 percent of those surveyed say they would support Obama while 43 percent say they would support McCain. In February, Obama led McCain 50 percent to 38 percent.
If Clinton and McCain were the candidates, the New York senator receives 46 percent support to McCain's 44 percent.
In a turnaround from last month, McCain now leads both Obama and Clinton among independent voters. Obama led McCain by 10 points among this group last month, but he now trails by 8 points. Clinton trails McCain by 11 points among independents.
Obama has the highest favorable rating of the three candidates - 44 percent - followed by Clinton at 39 percent and McCain at 38 percent. Clinton, meanwhile, has the highest unfavorable rating at 41 percent, followed by McCain at 31 percent and Obama at 28 percent.
I point out that there are other goodies in the story. For instance, most dems (67%) think it is going to go to the convention. More Dems would be satisfied if Obama were the nominee...something like 76% would be satisfied if it were Obama and 70% satisfied with HRC. All kinds of info...maybe signifying nothings.
I can't vouch for the poll or the methodology. I just wanted to point out that the sky hasn't fallen yet and that it's ok to come out of the foetal position and emerge from underneath your bed.
So cheer up, me hearties. There will be blue skies over, the white cliffs of Dover. Whatever all this means, I'm thinking that Obama has weathered the storm.
Upodate I can't diary about this BUT...there's a very interesting NY Times article that folks should go look at...It may make them feel even better. Essentially, it's a Nagourney article that seems to acknowledge that HRC's staff is realizing that they are running out of time and opportunity. They were hoping to make hay out of Wright but that seems to be fizzling. At least, that's the way I read it.
NY Times: HRC's Path's Narrowing
In truth, in interviews, Mrs. Clinton’s advisers said that task was tough and growing tougher and that the critical questions were what would happen with Florida and Michigan and the possibility of developments involving Mr. Obama’s relationship with his spiritual adviser, the Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr.
The fight over Florida and Michigan is just partly about delegates. Victories in new primaries in those states are among the only realistic ways for Mrs. Clinton to erase Mr. Obama’s advantage in the total popular vote.
Mr. Obama’s edge over Mrs. Clinton is 700,000 votes out of 26 million cast, excluding caucuses and the disputed Florida and Michigan results. About 12 million people are eligible to vote in the remaining contests.
Someone else should check it out and diary it. Fascinating article
