In 2002, I worked to re-elect Georgia Senator Max Cleland. For a variety of reasons, including some of the dirtiest campaign ads ever run in this country (comparing a Vietnam hero, who sacrificed three limbs on the battlefield for his country, to Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein). It was the '02 GOP "tide" and Max lost. It took me, and many others here in Georgia, a long damned time to get over that loss.
Ever since that election, I've been waiting for a viable Democratic candidate to run against Saxby Chambliss this year. For a long time, I did not see anyone who fit that bill. But, yesterday, someone finally announced who has a viable chance to a) beat the other Democrats who have announced, and b) beat Chambliss like a borrowed mule.
I'm please to announce:
Former State Representative and '06 Democratic candidate for Lt. Governor Jim Martin has announced his candidacy for the US Senate.
Jim's Website
Okay, the website isn't much yet, but Jim has just made the decision to jump into this race. He ran a great campaign in '06 for Lt. Governor and drew more votes against his Republican opponent that our gubernatorial candidate did against Gov. Sonny "Moonpie" Perdue.
One of the things I really liked about his campaign in '06 was that his entire family was involved. You couldn't go to a Democratic event anywhere in the state without being swarmed by Martin family and supporters.
Jim will be the strongest candidate against Chambliss, who is not widely liked in the state and has a 92% Bush "rubber-stamp" index.
Please visit JIm's website, and contribute what you can.
Let's clean the US Senate of all the GOP vermin!
