A Friday night conversation with the rightie neighbor
Drinks.......adult beverages. Hey, it's Friday night, after all haha.
Rightie neighbor over to have a beer and play with Rose the Cat, (for whom I am named).
I like him a lot.......he's a decent guy. But he is SO looking for an excuse to vote Republican again. And he's not really finding one. He likes Obama, but claims to be above it all, as far as political discourse is concerned.
He says to me that he heard a comedian on TV (not cable - him and his Mom don't have cable - strictly network TV - rabbit ears in the family room, even) say that "Democrats were elected in 2006 - now since they're in office, we have a RECESSION - go figure".
WELL..........I got SO hot.......really pretty infuriated. I said "are you calling the Bush recession/depression the fault of DEMOCRATS"??????????
He held up his hands like WHOA "hey I'm just saying that's what COMEDIANS are saying". "this election is so amusing, great fodder for comedians".
SIGH. I told him well, I don't think it's so damn funny, actually. Economy melting down, and it's all Bush policies doing it. I asked him very hotly, "so you think that the DEMOCRATS that were elected in 2006 had lots to do with deregulating the markets, giving huge tax breaks to the rich, and continuing the War? Granted, they were kind of ineffectual to STOP it, but you think they CAUSED IT??
Well, no of course not, I just think it's amusing. Hahah, yeah it's amusing the way a train wreck is amusing if you're not riding the train.
I asked him who his Mom will vote for. He waffled and wouldn't give me an answer. SIGH. I asked him, point blank, "are you going to be a McCain voter"? Endless war? Again, he waffled.
I think he may vote for Obama, if the media doesn't succeed in completely smearing him. I'm pretty sure his Mom (84 years old) will vote for McCain. Neither one of them understands what Milton Friedman free-market (rigged market) economics has brought us to. If either of them DOES vote for a Progressive candidate, it will be because they figure the War will cost them money.
Which it will. Haha. I will keep harping on that, with both of them
