This past Wednesday I met up with several contributers to this site in Washington DC for a day of protests and passionate discussion about what we as individuals can do to stop the war. Obviously, being people that attend protests, we believe that physically and tangibly expressing our opposition to the war is critical in influencing the powers that be (if there are still any that will listen).
The most important of our discussions centered around how to get more people involved in anti-war movement. So many are against the war, but so few seem to do anything about it. Protest is seen by many as impractical, and it actually is, but the impracticality is orders of magnitude less than the impracticalities of fighting in a war, or being a victim of war.
My demographic, which is such a critical one as we are the big earners and spenders, was virtually absent from the protest, although well represented on my flight to DC - en route to a variety of practical responsibilities (because in the eyes of our culture one is only really responsible if one is doing something to make money for oneself or preferably, one's employer).
Anyway, I hope that you will do the poll and add your comments below. This issue has been discussed again and again on this site and others, but I still see the anti-war movement dwindling in the wake of the election. I am not an organizer of any group (although I have tried in vain to organize groups of mothers like myself to go to local protests) but am intensely interested is what you think should be done. I want to do more and hope to use this survey to help me to figure out what and how.
I know that many of you will agree with several or all of the items listed in the survey below - please select the one you believe will be the most effective in stopping the war.
Thanks!
