the other service providers?

What would you feel like if you tried to get on the internet and you just couldn't?

sddddddd22222222222222222222

Sorry.  That was Romeo.  The cat.  The real skinny old cat.

Romeo may or may not have stopped an international crisis.

I may or may not have just canceled the dial-up I've been living with

as I thought I was waiting for some piece of equipment that I thought, I had been told

would be sent to me free of charge.  In seven to ten business days.

I think I may have just given a man cause to think I was a jingoistic American.

That ugly one.

Holy Toledo.  I really miss MindSpring.

I just threatened to cancel the service I never got from Earthlink

and this man in India basically said

You got it bitch.

It was kinda cool.

Still.  Through no fault of his

Earthlink sucks.

And that makes me sad.

No big whoop.

But still.

As "The Band" once said,

(you know who you are)

"Where do we go from here?"

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

You can add a private note to this diary when hotlisting it:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary from your hotlist?
Are you sure you want to remove your recommendation? You can only recommend a diary once, so you will not be able to re-recommend it afterwards.
Rescue this diary, and add a note:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary from Rescue?
Choose where to republish this diary. The diary will be added to the queue for that group. Publish it from the queue to make it appear.

You must be a member of a group to use this feature.

Add a quick update to your diary without changing the diary itself:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary?
(The diary will be removed from the site and returned to your drafts for further editing.)
(The diary will be removed.)
Are you sure you want to save these changes to the published diary?

    P.S. Earthlink does suck.

      Yes, Earthlink sucks...
but no, you can't get DSL "from" them.

You're getting it from the local phone company...
who (very) reluctantly sells the service to Earthlink at a discount because the law forces them to...
and then Earthlink marks it up and sells it to you.

When it stops working, you call Earthlink...
the call center clowns lies to you and (maybe) calls your phone company...
who doesn't care, because you're not their customer.

      Bottom lines:
      Yes, Earthlink sucks.
Buy your Internet directly from the provider (the cable company is usually fastest).
After you've done that, don't try to use some third-party VoIP provider, because you'll end up in the feedback loop described above.

      •  Yea. I just left ATT. In a tizzy. (0+ / 0-)

I wonder if they'll take me back.  Isn't that a pathetic state of affairs?

I left ATT for the same reason I left Earthlink over a decade ago.

My service kept screwing up.  I was on the phone trying to fix it.

        For long periods of time.

        And I thought..........

I pay for being on the phone trying to fix the thing that I pay a substantial amount of money for?

So I canceled.  However.  It has not been as satisfying as I would have hoped,

If I had 'em, they'd have me by 'em.

What are you posting on here?
I had Eartstink and they wouldn't let me cancel on line and I told them you took the account on line you'll cancel online. They not.
For 3 months they kept billing and I kept canceling the charge. In the end I had to cancel my CC and get a new account #.
If you need I can look and see who will carry in your area?
I've been helping my dad in Virginia remotely, it's a pain but can be done.

  •  Try Using a Different Dial-up Number (1+ / 0-)

Almost everywhere you are Earthlink provides more than one number to make your connection.

Get in touch with them and request they provide another number; they may appreciate hearing from you so they can provide better service.  Who knows?  It can't hurt.

  •  Earthlink was down in NYC last month... (0+ / 0-)

I have a cable modem for my computer through TimeWarner in NY. Earthlink is my ISP. It was down for about 3 days last month throughout ALL of Manhattan. What a mess. So I don't know what Earthlink's problems are, but your question makes me wonder how widespread this is.

  •  Remote Areas (0+ / 0-)

I live in a remote area with no DSL or cable, yet internet access is critical for me. Satellite is available but slower and expensive.

I've have been running both Earthlink ($21.95/mo) and Copper.net (free for 3 months, then $14.95/mo). The Copper dial-up ISP service is faster, better and cheaper. Great USA-based customer service too.

No connections to Copper here, just a strong thumbs-up for a small company doing a great job.

PS... they use the same dial-up access numbers as Earthlink does, just somehow faster.

    •   Possible wireless? (0+ / 0-)

I' was going to spring for my dad and just a stones throw from DC and it's not available yet in his area. I thought it was a joke.
Callao VA and just secondary coverage at best.
