Hillary cannot see that WE as a nation and movement are more important then HER and her ambitions. That's why she should not and does not deserve to be president.
We passed a milestone - 4000 dead and counting in Iraq. While this may be simply an artificial benchmark, there are certain indisputable facts.
Last year was the bloodiest year for American soldiers. There are two courses of action to take - one is to plan for withdrawal (as both Hillary and Obama want to do) and the other is to stay in Iraq for 100 years. If there were a plan for Democratic unity and paving the way to begin the campaign vs. John Mccain, we'd be in good shape either way to progress in 2009.
But that's not happening. No, we have lawyers doing math (a sign of the Apocalypse, I believe) suggesting that if the moon is at 3/4 cusp and if frogs have wings, Hillary is the best nominee based upon a certain type of convoluted arithmetic and whining. This should occur despite losing the popular vote, state, and delegate count.
So we have two outcomes that are becoming increasingly likely. One is that she loses the nomination but does enough damage to get another shot vs. McCain in 2012. The second is that she gets the nomination by some of the most divisive and despicable tactics ever employed in the Democratic Primary, and it will divide the party. I suspect in this case, expect Nader to do better then he did in 2000 and voter turnout to return to it's depressed levels of 2004 and 2000.
And I don't need a second opinion to tell me Hillary and Bill have been pimping John McCain almost as much as themselves recently. I can see that in their soundbites.
That means they not only put the progressive movement at risk, they continue to put tens of thousands of American lives at risk in a war that has gone on longer then WWII. They continue to put our economy, our future, and our environment at risk by promoting a candidate who will among other things, continue to confuse Shia with Sunni. This woman does not deserve to be president, if for no other reasons then her deficiencies of character. One does not put themselves ahead of the country in their pursuit of the presidency. You run to serve, not to receive. Or rather, one should if they're truly qualified.
I can hear the argument already "No Whiskeytown, you're selfish because you won't support the Democratic candidate if she is nominated" - That's because myself, and many many others, are independents, and not beholden to vote for every stinker the DNC can throw out there. I will no longer choose "the lesser" of two evils. And any party that nominates a person like this will quickly lose a lot of loyal friends.
Furthermore, it will take more then a president, it will take Millions of Americans with their hearts full and ready to move forward. Hillary would be like one of those tire damage spikes you see at checkpoints, and if nominated, would blow out all the tires going the wrong way.
I'm also hearing arguments that Obama can't beat McCain. That's the same thing they said about Hillary, and he has pulled ahead of her, and he can do it again. He hasn't even been able to go after McCain yet because he must respond to the Clinton Attack Dogs. I never liked Carville anyways, but now I'm positive the guy is slimier then a snake oil salesman.
This is potentially the most important election I will see in my lifetime. Unfortunately, no matter how it plays out, the Superdelegates will have to decide the nominee - and I feel they should do so immediately instead of prolonging this out another five months. We will need every day to counterattack McCain and the Republican War Machine, and Hillary's day is done. The longer we let her stay in the race thinking she has a chance, the more damage she will try to do to Obama to set herself up for the 2012 race.
I am ready for the superdelegates to step in to end this. Pelosi, Gore, Reid, Edwards. Dean - you know what needs to be done. Richardson has joined up, so please consider making your influence and voices better heard.
