I wrote a letter to my representative a while back expressing my outrage at the firing to the U.S. attorneys, and the failure of Bolten and Miers to appear before the judiciary committee. Here is the letter he sent me.
Dear -----:
Thank you for contacting me with regard to H.Res. 979, a measure recommending that the House of Representatives find former White House counsel Harriet Miers and White House Chief of Staff Joshua Bolten in contempt of Congress for refusal to comply with subpoenas duly issued by the Committee on the Judiciary. I appreciate hearing from you on this matter.
The House Committee on the Judiciary has sought information from the Justice Department concerning alleged wrongdoing in the firing of nine U.S. Attorneys. The Committee is investigating whether the traditionally independent Department of Justice fired the U.S. Attorneys for partisan political reasons as well as the role of key White House personnel, including Josh Bolten and Harriet Miers, in that decision. H.Res. 982, which provided for the adoption of H.Res. 979 passed in the House, with my support, by a vote of 223-32 on February 14, 2008. Unfortunately, the Justice Department has refused to enforce subpoenaing Miers and Bolton, forcing Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to direct the House general counsel to file a lawsuit in U.S. District Court in order to enforce the subpoenas requiring Miers and Bolten to testify before Congress. Attorney General Mukasey stated he will not allow the U.S. Attorney for D.C. to convene a Grand Jury to determine whether contempt citations should be issued against the two. I can assure you I support the continued efforts of the Judiciary Committee and the Speaker, and will continue to monitor this investigation with your concerns in mind.

With every good wish,
Sincerely yours,
