Federal Judge Nancy Edmunds has declared that the Michigan state law that created the January 15th primary fiasco is unconstitutional.

The law included a provision under which voter lists for the primary (which theoretically would indicate party preference for voters) would be turned over to the Michigan Republican Party and Michigan Democratic Party. The ACLU and the Green, Reform, and Libertarian Parties (along with two private political consulting firms) argued that the information should be publicly available to all who want it, or not available at all. This clause in the statute has been declared unconstitutional. The law originally mandated a deadline of today for the Secretary of State's office to turn voter preference informtion over to the party.
Judge Edmunds and State Elections Director Chris Thomas say the ruling will have "no practical effect" on the primary itself.
I will update and babysit this diary as details become available. The opinion will be posted as soon as possible.
Also, I would recommend visiting MichiganLiberal.com throughout the afternoon. Mark Grebner is an expert in election law and the Michigan primary situation, and he will be providing insight and commentary.
