Everybody loves a cheap high.
It may be benign, like clear mountain air or singing in a gospel choir. It may be naughty, like an unexpectedly potent bag of ditchweed. Or it may be evil, like a phony sense of superiority based on lies.
Geekesque's diary about Larry Johnson and the hundreds of recommendations that kept it on top of the recommended list at Daily Kos are examples of the third category: A phony sense of superiority based on slander.
Geekesque calls Larry Johnson a "piece of racist trash," based on weirdly truncated quotes and innuendos, and it's a disgrace to Daily Kos that his diary appeared on the recommended list.
This has nothing to do with Barack Obama. I often criticize Mr. Obama, but on the worst day of his life he still had infinitely more class than the abject Geekesque.
Geekesque tries to turn Larry Johnson into a "piece of racist trash" with the weird device of a truncated blockquote that ends in a colon:
I like Ice T on Law and Order. He’s a good actor (and white moron I am, confused him with Ice Cube). He’s the black guy white folks generally feel comfortable with. But Ice Cube is a different matter. His lyrics from a few years past are, in the vernacular, off the hook, but strangely relevant to the debate surrounding Barack’s relationship with Jeremiah Wright. His song, Wrong Nigga to Fuck Wit, contains these lyrics:
What lyrics are those, Geekesque? You set up the quote, so where is it? But Geekesque stops short of quoting the lyrics because they might distract readers from the slander that he's trying to sell about Larry Johnson.
It ain’t no pop cause that sucks
And you can new jack swing on my nuts
Down wit the niggaz that I bail out
I’m platinum bitch and I didn’t have to sell out
Fuck you ice cube, that’s what the people say
Fuck amerikkka, still with the triple k
Cause you know when my nine goes pop
It’ll bust your head like a watermelon dropped from 12
stories up
Now let’s see who’ll drop
Punk motherfuckers tryin to ban hip-hop
Fuck r&b and the runnin man
I’m the one that stand, with the gun in hand
Make sure before you buck wit duck quick
Punk, cause I’m the wrong nigga to fuck wit.
Larry Johnson's blog makes the point that there are some elements of the black scene that most Americans of whatever color or ethnicity absolutely reject. A couple of the examples he mentions are Jeremiah Wright's "God damn America!" sermon and Ice Cube's "Fuck amerikkka, bust your head like a watermelon" lyrics. His blog contains no negative characterizations of black people whatsoever, neither in the entry mischaracterized by Geekesque, nor in the hundreds of other articles Mr. Johnson has published on the web.
It may give some of Obama's stupidest supporters a cheap thrill of superiority to think that everybody who opposes their candidate is "racist trash," but this sort of support is unworthy of Mr. Obama, whatever his real flaws as a candidate may be.
Geekesque's slanderous diary and its hundreds of recommendations are a disgrace to Daily Kos.
