Crossposted at the Nebraska Progressive:
A few weeks ago I wrote a post entitled, Finally, A Responsible Plan to End the War in Iraq. Here is a brief excerpt:
Democratic candidates from around the nation have joined forces to endorse the Responsible Plan to End the War in Iraq...it is a good plan and I encourage our Democratic candidates to look at as well.<</p>
...this is an important issue we must highlight this election. Our Republican delegation continues its blind support for the failed Bush-McCain policies in Iraq. Congressman Terry has repeatedly stated that Iraq played a major role in 9/11, a claim disputed universally...They are wrong and they know they are wrong and they know the voters of our great state are poised to punish them for their support of these shameful policies.
Richard Carter, Iraq War Veteran and underdog candidate for the Democratic nomination, appears poised to be the first of Nebraska's candidates to endorse the plan. The scoop below the fold...
(Disclaimer: I did work for Carter when he first announced. I am not employed by the campaign; in fact, I am undecided at this point.)
Yesterday, during Carter's weekly live blog, I took asked him the following questions: (with response)
Q: Would you consider endorsing the "Responsible Plan to End the War in Iraq" lead by Darcy Burner, Jared Polis, and other candidates from across the country?
A: I have read it a couple of times. I think overall it is an excellent plan, and we are seriously considering making a public endorsement.
Well, two viable sources (both wished to remain unnamed) are telling me that Carter will endorse the plan tomorrow with in a press release and make a "major speech on Iraq" Wednesday. Rather than just assume, I gave Dan Morris, Carter's campaign manager a call.
Morris, who worked for Carter's primary opponent Jim Esch in 2006, stayed clear of an endorsement but did say that Carter thought it was a "good plan" and that he was considering an endorsement soon. Morris then emailed me the following link for a Carter town hall meeting a couple minutes after our conversation:
If Carter endorses, as I expect him to, within the next couple of days that will be a real sign of a serious candidate for Nebraska Second Congressional District. I have yet to see much seriousness from Jim Esch, Carter's primary opponent and 2006 nominee.
We have to provide a contrast with Terry who continue to be a rubber stamp for President Bush and his failed policies. As a Iraq War Veteran and an Economist Carter brings a lot to the table and I hope people give him a serious look.
If you would like throw Carter come money and help boost his quarter numbers, here is the link to his ActBlue page.
Here is his website where you can learn more. (I actually designed it...I swear I am undecided though...)
