Uh, oh... This is NOT good news...
Here we go again...
This just scrolling off the APF newsfeed:
In a scheduled talk to members of an independent think tank
Sunday, March 30 in New Orleans, LA, the Reverend Jeremiah A. Wright revealed
background details of some of his past sermons that had aroused
considerable national controversy in recent weeks. Reverend
Wright's latest assertions seem certain to once again place
presidential candidate Barack Obama squarely in the middle
of a new firestorm of criticism.
"As the most politically astute of my flock, of course Barack
would be the one to whom I would turn when composing a sermon
that addresses our national condition," Reverend Wright allegedly
asserted in his remarks to an audience of over 200 members of
Americans for a Better Way. "The child is truly father to the man."
"In many cases, I would read a completed written sermon to Barack
over the phone and we would then proceed to fine tune certain
passages. Barack is an absolute master orator, and
he seemed to have an instinctive grasp of exactly how to frame
certain points I was trying to make. He often would suggest the
wording for critical phrases which I have to admit were usually
much more powerful than my original efforts."
The Reverend Wright went on to recall long-distance telephone
discussions with Barack Obama, "usually on a Saturday evening
after I had finished the rough draft of the next day's sermon...
calls sometimes from as far away as Florida."
Though members of the media were not present at the Reverend's
delivery Sunday afternoon in New Orleans at the annual Americans for a Better Way
convention, notes taken by some of those attending have
begun appearing as quotes on Internet blogs and web sites.
"He certainly seemed to be implying that Barack Obama helped him
write many of these sermons," claims a member of Americans for a Better Way.
"He took only a few questions after the talk, and almost all the questions
were about Obama's participation. Reverend Wright seemed pretty
clear about crediting Obama for sermons going back almost a decade."
Oh, God, just as Obama starts to close the gap in Pennsylvania, this
is going to be what the media pounces on today. Today of all days.
Talk about bad timing!
UPDATE: And now the NY Times is picking up the story...
