I wanted to post a diary to tell everyone here that we just sent out a press release announcing that Richard Carter, democratic candidate for Congress in NE-02 (that's right, Nebraska) is going to be giving a major address on the Iraq war tomorrow. During that address, he will endorse The Responsible Plan to End the War in Iraq.
The press release and more below the fold.

Richard Carter to give Major Address on Iraq War
Will Endorse The Responsible Plan to End the War in Iraq
Richard Carter, Democratic candidate for Nebraska's Second Congressional District, will endorse the Responsible Plan to End the War in Iraq tomorrow during a major address on the Iraq War. The address will take place at 5:00 PM in the Gallery Room at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
"Our brave men and women have accomplished every task that they have been given. We have deposed a dictator. We have ensured that there were no weapons of mass destruction. We have helped the Iraqi people write a constitution and elect their own free government. Now it is time to bring our troops home."
Carter is a veteran of both Iraq and Afghanistan. He served in the U.S. Air Force, rising to the rank of Captain while flying combat missions in both countries. Carter continues to serve as an Electronic Warfare Officer in the Air Force Reserve, and teaches economics at Metro Community College.
The Responsible Plan to End the War in Iraq (www.responsibleplan.com) has been endorsed by Congressional candidates and military experts nationwide. It calls for ending our military involvement in Iraq, rebuilding our military, and creating a new, U.S.-centered energy policy.
Richard has known for a long time that we need to get out of Iraq. As someone who has served in both Iraq and Afghanistan, Richard knows what needs to be done to refocus our military on the real threats, and to bring our men and women home safely and responsibly.
This shows, just like Bill Foster not backing down on FISA in his special election in IL-14, another red district, that we can run strong, intelligent, honest, progressive candidates in any district in the country. Richard is running in both a contested primary, and against a 10-year incumbent in the general. But this isn't stopping him from holding his ground and telling the people of our red district that it's time to get out of Iraq.
Richard is the type of strong, progressive, and electable candidate that we need. He is a perfect fit for this district. He is young, energetic, and has a strong record of teaching and service to our country. His seven years in the Air Force (and his current position as a Captain in the Air Force Reserve) will help win the votes of many many independents and quite a few Republicans who work at or live near Offutt Air Force Base, located in the heart of our district.
Ricahrd is the kind of Democrat who can WIN in NEBRASKA. This is the 50-state strategy at work. We have a strong candidate in the Nebraska Second, one who knows we need out of Iraq, who knows we need to balance the budget, who knows we need to provide quality, affordable healthcare to every single American.
But we can't win without your help.
We are a volunteer heavy campaign, and every single dollar you can spare to help us out will go a long way. A $2 donation buys a yard sign. A $10 donation will let us reach 50 more people with Richard's message. A $25 dollar donation will buy dinner for our very hungry volunteer corps after a long day of canvassing (like last Saturday, when we hit over 1,000 doors).
Richard can win, but we really do need your help. And this isn't just a drive-by diary, where I said to myself that since we endorsed the plan, the Netroots would just open their wallets. No, Richard has become a part of this community, writing a weekly liveblog and answering all questions, earning the respect and admiration of everyone who comes by to ask a question.
I will come back tomorrow and post the full address after the press conference. Thank you all for your support!
