According to Eric Kleefeld an internal GOP poll shows Republican Woody Jenkins is in danger of losing to Dem Don Cazayoux in the May special election to fill Republican Richard Baker's vacant seat in Congress:
An internal Republican poll in advance of one of the upcoming special elections in the state reportedly shows that former state Rep. Woody Jenkins, who is expected to win the Republican primary runoff this Saturday, is losing by three points to expected Democratic nominee Don Cazayoux.
The district went to President Bush by a 19-point margin in 2004, so this would be a particularly juicy pickup for national Dems.
This presents somewhat of a dilemma if you are a supporter of Rep. Michael Jackson, who is running against Cazayoux in the Dem run-off this Saturday. Especially if you believe what Cazayoux says about lovin them Blue Dogs in the House.
On one hand, you want this seat to flip, but is Jackson capable of doing it? He doesn't have nearly the fundraising prowess of Cazayoux. Of course, Jackson didn't raise much in the initial March election either and he made the run-off just fine.
However you feel about the candidates in this race, I will say this: I'm generally not a big fan of "strategic voting;" I'd rather vote my conscience.
Whatever you personally decide to do, if you live in the district (Baton Rouge and surrounding parishes), make sure you vote on Saturday. Either Jackson or Cazayoux is vastly better than Jenkins who, really, is just half-vast.
