Today, I received my second call from right-wing telemarketers trying to scare me into supporting the Senate's FISA bill. (I hung up on the first caller earlier this week, so I guess that meant they marked me down as undecided and tried again!)
I think it's instructive to be aware of how the right wing is organizing its campaign on this issue.
Details below.
The caller didn't make any mention of what's actually in the bill; she just said that it would protect national security and the House bill wouldn't. She was asking me to contact my Congressman to thank him for fighting for the Senate provisions (yeah, right).
Clearly, they are afraid of the truth on this issue, as they are seeking to hide behind fear and a vague call to "protect national security."
Apparently, a group called Frontiers of Freedom is behind this. Their website is www.ff.org. I can't tell from the site if they are a 527 or a 501 c 4. I'm surprised I haven't heard of them before since it sounds like they've been around for a while. They are clearly off the deep end.
I guess I shouldn't be surprised by this tactic. But it just underscores the need for vigilance on this fight. They're taking it to the people, and we should do likewise. When people know what this fight is about, they side with us.
