Senators Jim Webb and Chuck Hagel proposed a new GI Bill, which would bring back WWII style standards of providing vets with full tuition, room and board. And that is why 51 senators have signed on, including 9 Republicans like John Warner, giving this GI Bill tremendous bipartisan support.
But it isn't enough. Faced with unprecedented filibusters, the only way to ensure Senate passage of the GI Bill is to get 60 co-sponsors. So far, John McCain has refused. The same McCain who insists he supports our troops. The same McCain who is voting lockstep with the Bush administration (who have also resisted this bill). We need to get John McCain to lead -- to sign now and signal to other Republican leaders that we should be strongly behind our vets.
Of course AWOL Bush and 5 Deferment Cheney have resisted this legislation, also. This GI-Bill legislation would cost money. Money that the billionaire owner/handlers/sponsors of George Bush want for themselves! Why give benefits to our troops when he can give subsidies to the oil companies?
Sure, they've already gotten multiple "wartime tax cuts" but they aren't satisfied yet. They know that after the "decider's" disastrous regime, it'll be a cold day in hell before Americans risk putting another unAmerican, constitution burning, neo-con in the White House, so they are out to squeeze every last penny they can from this economy before President AWOL slithers away into the back pages of history!
Since McBush is really just Bush without the AWOL label, his refusal to read the legislation and sign on to it, is just a way for him to appear as though he cares about soldiers, when he really only cares about campaign contributors and fooling the public.
McCain didn't support the Senate effort to enforce troop rest regulations, either. He's the pro-war anti-military candidate.
Where was McBush on the deplorable conditions at Walter Reed, inadequate body armor, cutting tours days short to avoid benefits, failure to accurately complete discharge papers to ensure benefits, stop loss, make sure our troops had proper body armor and weapons.
Where is America's hero when it comes to the treatment of our troops...AWOL!
