As a reaction to these posts, I have edited my comments. I apologize to the Carter campaign for causing any trouble. I am personally aggravated with way the Esch has run him campaign so far and do not feel that he is doing anything but riding the coat tails of his 2006 run and is not paying attention to the issues or the candidate that he pledged to support before re-entering the race. My endorsement of Carter is still, whole-heartedly valid, and I feel that my argument for him is as well. As I said, I came into this race as an Esch supporter, but I have found that Carter is the best candidate. Again, my endorsement still stands, and I would like people to read this diary, now edited, with forgiving eyes, and don't let the previous edition reflect poorly toward Mr. Carter or his campaign.
A day after Richard Carter announces his plan to end the war in Iraq, and endorses the Responsible Plan there is no doubt in my mind that this young Captain and veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan, who has the good fortune to also be able to call himself an economist, is the ONLY candidate who can win in November, and is the ONLY candidate who will fight for change in this district. He has made a number of campaign promises which I believe he will uphold. These promises include voting for fiscal responsibility, removing our troops from Iraq, and ensuring that our schools and school systems are not ruled by a system that looks to bare statistics for results, but relies on the teachers and the education and proper treatment of those teachers to know what is best for our children to learn. He is a leader, who is humble and proven through his experiences in the military as a combat veteran, and as a teacher and mentor to countless students. I would encourage everyone to read this and go to his website, which I have been promised is in the works of be totally revamped to include all of his issue summaries, and see with this man is all about if you don't already know. His website is: www.richardcarter2008.com He has also recently posted videos of a town hall he gave on YouTube, which I have included in this entry.
Another reason, which is certainly not the best or only reason for NE-02 voters to vote for Carter is that Jim Esch has turned into another Washington politician...and hasn't even made it to Washington yet. Esch, who's major campaign draw was that he was an independent, young, energetic voice for the people WHO DID NOT TAKE PAC MONEY has fallen on the battlefield of good men turned Washington by announcing that, "You have to play the game a little before you can change it." (That is a paraphrased quote, but still very accurate from his campaign kick-off party last night, where he said nary a word on the issues.) It appears Mr. Esch will do anything to win.
The NE-02 has found a much better candidate in Mr. Carter, and should embrace him with open arms. I came into this election as an Esch supporter, however with what I've seen of him on YouTube, the news, and what my friends and fellow politicos have said about him, it wasn't hard to convince me who the best Congressman will be. Carter is the change that the Democrats in this District have been waiting for, and Capt. Carter is the Change that Jim Esch was talking about in 2006.
MEMBERS OF THE SECOND DISTRICT: RICHARD CARTER IS THE MAN FOR THE PEOPLE, HE IS THE BEST QUALIFIED TO BRING EXPERIENCE, HOPE, AND CHANGE TO WASHINGTON. ELECT HIM AS THE DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE FOR U.S. CONGRESS ON MAY 13TH AND SEND HIM ALL THE SUPPORT AND MONEY YOU CAN!
