Once again I am going to shamelessly indulge myself here at Daily Kos. There will be no links or fine intellectual analysis. I'm still a little too punch drunk to meet the high standards of the premier political blog in the land, or at least one that gets a very high number of hits.
Yes, one of the few forlorn members of the battered Democratic base once again wishes to say a few words.
You see, I am too punch drunk to pull punches any more. What the hell.
Whether it be people I love or people I hate or anyone in between, I don't know too many saints, and I include myself in the non-saint number.
So sure, I have enemies, foes, opponents, both personal and political and all that, negative feelings, and all. I'm only human. I'm certainly not proud of this, but I won't deny it.
But those enmities change and shift and flow; one day a friend becomes a foe, another day a foe becomes a friend. In my personal life I have no permanent enemies, and at 53 I've decided that's a sensible way to go.
Now politically, as a human being living on planet Earth and as a sentient being who has a mind and a conscience and an average sense of awareness, I do indeed have permanent enemies. Foes.
In these times, I would call those enemies out as crooks and thieves and murderers. And there are far more colorful epithets to throw at 'em as well, and I believe we've seen those gems here at Daily Kos many times.
So I am completely over the notion that I hate Republicans or I hate Democrats or Greens or stupid bloggers or particular media personalities, although I do often have personal contempt for all sorts of people depending upon my mood and what they have done or said.
Karl Rove should be in jail. So should Scooter Libby. Donald Rumsfeld should be in jail. Alberto Gonzalez should be in jail. And these are just the larger of the small fry.
Common criminals. Not pure evil or nefarious geniuses. Common criminals. Pretty it up all you want with noble slogans and quotes from great oratories of the past. It is not profound in my view.
See, I'm a member of the Democratic base. My values have not changed since I was a young girl. So my view shows me very simply that we have in the highest positions of power, a group of common criminals. Not fancy ones. Not at all.
And I don't claim that, as a member of the Democratic base, that my values are somehow superior to anyone else's. I don't think they are. But they do the job when it comes to ripping away the shiny distractions and seeing who the real crooks are and focusing on that as the problem of our times. Not because of the crooks, you see, but because of those values.
I appreciate the indulgence today, of being able to add my voice to the hubbub.
