Yesterday I became aware of an online interview with Jon Anderson. He is the lead singer of Yes (about to go on their 40th anniversary tour, incidentally) for those of you who are not 1970's dinosaurs like myself. As you go to the site, you'll notice some familiar faces at the top of the page. "Big Talker 1210" is yet another wholly-owned right wing talk radio that plays host to such hatemongers as Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Lielly.
Click on the interview links for the brain bleach to wash that crap away... you SO won't be sorry!
Mr. Anderson appears in all his distinguished glory, looking and sounding very healthy for his 64 years. He begins midway through the second part of the interview to completely lambaste the religious right. This is almost as beautiful a performance as one of his songs.
OK, I'll admit I'm a bit biased. I'm married, not dead. Jon Anderson could read the phone book in that Accrington lilt and I'd probably find a way to enjoy it, but hearing those dulcet tones wrapped around such words of freedom, seeing him take the fight to the right wing's very doorstep and completely clean their clocks in his own subtle, devastatingly brilliant way is an experience beyond blissful.
One of the most hilarious parts of the interview is where he starts talking about Eisenhower's statements about the military/industrial complex. He's very clearly having a bit of fun with the DJ - pretending to be such a stoned-out hippie that he can't remember the phrase, but obviously trying to get the guy to say it himself. Jon ventures into extremely dangerous waters for wingnut talk radio audiences: religious fundamentalism versus spiritual cluefulness, the sexism and oil control freakery of Saudi Arabia, and US racism against the Native Americans. He mentions Hillary and Obama by name, and makes it VERY clear that McCain is not even on his voting radar.
I don't believe I've EVER been so PROUD to be a Yes fan. This is a must see. I just had to share.
