Democrats, please remember - - start every statement on any subject by saying: John McCain says he'd be happy to see our troops in Iraq for another hundred years. I just can't agree with that.
If you're going to be our nominee, I want you to win.
Therefore, I'd really want our likely nominee's campaign to avoid making any losing arguments.
Discussing economic issues, here's what Michelle Obama had to say Tuesday in West Virginia:
"Most Americans don't want much. They don't want the whole pie. There are some who do, but most Americans feel blessed just being able to thrive a little bit. But that is becoming even more out of reach . . . "
So far, so good. If only she stopped there.
But, she continued.
"The truth is, in order to get things like universal health care and a revamped education system, then someone is going to have to give up a piece of their pie so that someone else can have more."

Personally, I'd gladly pay 5% more taxes if it meant there would be 5% less poverty in the world. I'd gladly double my tax burden if we could guarantee that no American would be without health care, shelter, education, and all the other things most of us take for granted. But, in general electoral politics, that is a losing argument.
"[S]omeone is going to have to give up a piece of their pie so that someone else can have more"? No. You talk about growing the pie, not redistributing the pie. Someone needs to tell her to stop it.
Concern troll? Damn straight. I don't want to lose. And, she's making a real dangerous, real losing argument. The righties will use this statement on economics just like we'll use "100 years in Iraq" on foreign policy. This isn't how you get crossover Republicans.
PS - The latest AP-Ipsos, April 7-9, has McCain and Obama tied at 45%. If you like that trend, attack me and ignore the obvious mistakes Obama's campaign is making.
