I miss John Edwards, and this "bitter" controversy makes me miss him all the more. Here's the latest joke:
"For months, Barack Obama and his campaign have relentlessly attacked Hillary Clinton's character and integrity by using Republican talking points from the 1990s," spokesman Phil Singer said in a statement. "The shame is his. Sen. Clinton does know better -- she knows better than to condescend and talk down to voters like Senator Obama did. Senator Obama’s outburst won't change the fact that he has embraced his characterization of the millions of Americans who live in small towns."
So now it's Hillary's turn to attack from the right, using the same sleazy tactic of intentionally misunderstanding what was actually said that Richard Mellon Scaiffe used against the Clintons in the 1990s?
I know it's been written elsewhere here, but what Obama said is 100 percent true.
The Republican Party has ripped government in this country apart, systematically removing regulations and oversight until there is nothing government can do to help regular folks economically. All Republicans, and their DLC friends, do economically is cut tax rates which doesn't help when your take home pay isn't enough even before you pay.
Then the Republicans spent decades scaring the crap out of people, telling them liberals -- the ones who want to actually help the middle class economically -- want to take your guns, turn your sons gay and let an illegal immigrant take your job. And the Republicans tell the middle class that the GOP is the last bulwark against these further insults.
So now the evidence for 30-40 years is that government doesn't actually help the middle class economically, and folks believe that it either can't or won't. So why the hell would you vote on economic issues? No matter how much you think the candidate wants to help, the evidence shows that government either can't or won't.
So you vote to protect yourself from the assault the Republicans say is coming from the left. You vote on guns, gays and immigration.
The Republicans set this up, whether intentionally or not. They crippled the government, poisoned the public discourse, lied about liberals and tricked people into voting against their better interests.
And Hillary knows it, but would rather win than tell the truth.
Seriously, Republicans have controlled the White House for 70 percent of the last 40 years, and Republican nominees to the Supreme Court have been in the majority for 100 percent of the past 40 years. Of the past 20 Congresses, Democrats have controlled only 11.
They've been running this country pretty much on their own for 40 years. It's be good if we all remembered that.
