The plastic industry isn't going to be happy about this news and hopefully they will escalate their biodegradable plastic research.
For the first time, the federal government is raising health alarms about bisphenol A (BPA), a chemical in plastics that is used in such varied items as dental fillings, baby bottles and sports water bottles.
The National Toxicology Program, part of the National Institutes of Health, released a draft report today that says exposure to the chemical may be linked to breast cancer, prostate cancer, early puberty in girls and such behavioral changes as hyperactivity. It urged further study.

So one would think the "government" of "George W. Bush" is doing a good thing? WRONG. They got caught and they got shamed into this new report:
The agency's warning reverses the opinion of an earlier expert panel that minimized the risk of BPA. That panel was assailed by public health advocates and discounted after an investigation by the House Committee on Government Oversight found that the scientific firm hired by the federal government to perform the analysis was also working for the chemical industry.
The National Toxicology Program only advises other government agencies such as the EPA and FDA who must now act on this agency's warnings or else face more ridicule.
How many other "studies" have been tainted by the funders of such studies? How many other "reversals" will their be? Does it really take a Democratic House committee to affect quality research?
The answer is obviously a resounding YES.
This means that the whole god-forsaken drug industry is corrupted.
We do know that the so-called "Republicans" and their industry apparatchiks in the White House are shameless so we may have to wait for the Obama administration for any action on this important health threat... I certainly won't hold my breath but maybe election-year politics will shame repubs into doing something good for once. Probably not though.... gotta war to fight for Exxon after all.
