Wow, seems that Senator Obama was spot-on about the bitter voters of some small towns in America.
Here's a good case-in-point. Remember the woman who asked Sen. Obama about lapel pins during the Pennsylvania debate?

Ms. Nash McCabe has all the problems in the world. She is a high school graduate, currently unemployed, is married to a disabled man undergoing multiple heart surgeries. She is constantly cash strapped because despite her desire to work hard she finds herself constantly unemployed.
She opposes both George Bush and John Mccain because she strongly opposes the Iraq war. On paper she should find common ground with Sen. Obama on the disastrous Iraq war, right?
Nope, She finds him incredibly ANNOYING!!! SHe was RELIEVED to have an opportunity both on national television and in the NY Times to vent about her hatred of Sen. Obama.
Why? Because Obama doesn't wear lapel pins and she has seen him on television turning his back on the flag before the anthem ended(good question about when that happened).
McClatchy News decided to follow up on her reason for requesting a lapel pin for Obama.
The rest is a depressing state of affairs.
The woman admits that it's not really about lapel pins, that it's about her perception that Obama looks like he had a ride of his life. That unlike her, he had a good college and high school education in sunny Hawaii. That Hillary is more like her because Hillary STRUGGLED in life like her.
Oh well, there you have it. It's not about lapel pins. Some white people just won't vote for a non-white person and can't come to terms with that. Intead they justify that with symbolic issues.
UPDATE: Somebody made a very wise point about this woman. Sen. Obama should offer to meet with the small town woman before the Pennsylvania primary. This could be a game-changer. He will get MASSIVE earned media coverage for turning a negative into a BIG positive. And he will get to highlight the issues she raises.
Please let's contact the Obama campaign with this idea. Markos should give frontpage treatment to this issue.
