One of the great things about this site is the way we can become aware of high quality candidates who deserve our support. How satisfying it was, for instance, on election night 2006, to watch the victories of several newcomers, such as Webb and Tester, who were expanding the electoral map, and to whose campaigns I was grateful to make modest contributions. This diary will introduce another such candidate whom I know well.
I have not lived in Utah since the mid-nineties, but I have many family members there and keep track of events. It will not surprise you that despite a more balanced history, in recent years, it has essentially become a one-party state. This has not been beneficial to the interests of the people of the state. I'm happy to report that some resistance to this domination is emerging: my aunt, Claralyn Hill, a democrat in the McCaskill mold, has declared her candidacy for the state legislature. I can think of no one whose good judgment better prepares her for the task of restoring some moderation to the Utah legislature.
I realize that many people have already contributed past the point of prudence to the presidential race or congressional races, but this race will not be an expensive one and small contributions will be encouraging and much appreciated. Even if you cannot contribute, check out the website and learn more about Claralyn Hill.
