As an unrepentant geek and an aficionado of high-quality television, I'm a big fan of the Sci Fi channel's critically-acclaimed show, Battlestar Galactica (If you haven't watched it before, do yourself a favor and check it out--but you definitely want to start at the beginning). My commenting and diary histories also attest to the fact that I am a committed and passionate Obama-supporter. What does a great television drama have to do with the next President of the United States of America? Well, seemingly nothing--but I aim to change that.
Follow me past the jump, and I'll tell you what I mean.
Earlier this week, I was sitting at my desk at work, bored nearly to tears. All of a sudden, an idea struck me seemingly from nowhere. Before I explain my idea, let me give a (very brief!) bit of background for those not familiar with Battletar Galactica. One of the show's main characters is a military commander by the name of William "Bill" Adama. He's a grizzled old man, and daring and bad-ass leader, but he's also something of an idealist, and, at times, a softy. His name also just so happens to rhyme with my presidential candidate of choice, which is key to where I'm going with this. Now that I've given that brief bit of background let me get back to my idea before I lose you all to confusion and/or boredom. . .
So I'm sitting at work and, for some reason, begin to idly wonder, "If I could pick a fictional character to be Obama's running mate, who would I choose?" The avid BSG-fan in me naturally gravitated towards Bill Adama, and then I realized just how great a choice this would be--not only is Adama a great character, but since their names rhyme, the Obama-Adama "ticket" would make for some seriously amusing fake campaign memorabilia.
This realization led to a decision: I simply have to make an Obama-Adama '08 election t-shirt--not to sell, but simply to wear. My artistic abilities, sadly, leave more than a little something to be desired, so I'm not sure I'm up to the ask on my own. That's where you come in. Below is what I've come up with so far, and I realize that it's not very good. I'm more than happy to let anybody who wants to "steal" my idea (actually, a quick Google search revealed that I was by no means the first person to come up with this political pairing), but I'm asking for some help with improving the graphics for the shirt. Here's what I've been able to create, using only Microsoft Word and Microsoft Photo Editor (sorry about the formatting--I couldn't figure out how to fit it on the page):
If you've got some ideas to help me improve this before I take it to a t-shirt printer--or if you want to play around with the graphic, or create your own, that's great too--would you be willing to post them in the comments, or send them to me via email at "someotherguy86 at gmail dot com?"
I appreciate any help or constructive criticism you feel like providing! Thanks, Kossacks!
