The new USA Today/Gallup Poll has lots of interesting news.
Let's see...Obama increased his margin over Hillary from 7 to 10 points. Both Democrats beat Mccain. More people blame Hillary for the contest being negative.
And then...wait....what's this??
Efforts by Clinton and John McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee, to characterize Obama as elitist for his remarks at a San Francisco fundraiser seem to have failed. Seven of 10 say Obama "respects working-class Americans" rather than looks down on them — a slightly more positive reading than that for McCain or Clinton.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
The funny thing is that the write-up for this poll includes the following:
Barack Obama has widened his lead nationally for the Democratic presidential nomination despite a furor over his comments about small-town Americans, a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll finds.
"Furor"? WHAT furor? Every article that I have read that includes the reactions of actual voters finds that folks aren't worked up about these comments. Even the Wall Street Journal came to that conclusion.
Even FOX which actually did a video series about this, was only able to find folks that agreed with Obama. With the exception of the "regular Pennsylvanians" in Hillary's ad, I think most people realize that he chose his words carelessly, but has no disdain for small-town America in his heart.
It seems to me that this "controversy" is beyond manufactured. It is quite literally wishful thinking on the part of the Clinton/Mccain campaigns, and of course, the ever insightful national media. Bittergate has so far had no measurable effect on national polls or Pennsylvania polls, despite getting an incredible amount of press. Heck, a "bad" debate affected Barack more. Can we expect an apology from CNN for talking about this crap for a week? Will Lou Dobbs stop running his dumb-ass polls?
I guess the answer to that is no.

Also..isn't this kind of like how a couple of weeks after the Wright controversy began, the NYT did a poll and one of the questions asked was about who "shares America's values"....and Barack beat both Hillary and Mccain? Yeah. That teflon is some good stuff...
