Marvel Comics was a staple of my youthful fantasy world, replete with the hypertrophied abs, chests and buttocks of eighties comic-book art and my own pre-pubescent fantasies. Marvel offered numerous titles developing thousands of interconnected story-lines, but perhaps their most creative endeavor was What If?, a title that explored how events in The Marvel Universe could have turned out differently.
Which brings us, in my meandering way, to the point of this diary: HRC '08 is now campaigning in The Marvel Comics Universe.
Despite the fact that the rules in the Democratic Primary in this reality are abundantly clear to everyone else, HRC '08 insists that other measures (determined by them) should be used to make the final determination. They have proposed that only large states, blue states, and even only states that Hillary "In Wonderland" Clinton won in the primary are all valid ways of determining the Democratic nominee. They have claimed that Hillary was against voting for the Iraq war before she voted for it, and was therefore against the Iraq War before Barack Obama. Some of the assumptions used to make determinations of Hillary's viability as a candidate have been more than a little bit questionable, if not outright byzantine and hilarious.
All of these are, of course, What If scenarios. There is more than sufficient analysis available demostrating the impossibility of the Clinton Campaign, in this reality. But HRC '08 is going to let anything, including the will of the Democratic voters or Reality, get in the way of their campaign. The latest "What If" scenario offered by Bill "Through the Wormhole" Clinton is "What if they were Competing in the GOP Primary?" How the Democratic Party Superdelegates will react to that nugget in this reality is difficult to determine, given that the General Election has not yet been moved to Marvel's pages.
