We were so close to ending this thing already, but we'll have to push forward. There is a hard fought battle going on by Democrat Travis Childers for the First Congressional District open seat right now that can be won with our help.
Victory in MS-1 will continue to validate the 50-state strategy and all the work we're doing to field candidates in races the DC crowd blows off. Howard Dean has encouraged Democrats to take back red states all across America by using the grassroots efforts of many. As it was with Bill Foster, it can be done in Mississippi.
Here's what we can do....
In a six-candidate, non-partisan race, Tuesday's special election showed that this is totally possible. Democrat fell just 400 votes short of the 50% plus one mark, which would have avoided a run-off and won the the seat outright. But it's not too late. We can all work together to make this happen.
Childers will face right-wing Trent Lott disciple Greg Davis in a run off election on May 13th. From now till that date we all need to load Childers' coffer with ammunition to fight the good fight, regardless of where we live. This could be a key nail in Tom Cole's coffin and strengthen our hold on Congress.
The winner in May may well be decided by the candidate that has the most grassroots support. People are ready for change and Childers is poised to make it happen. Childers' Act Blue page can be the first step. A netroots call to action is in order for Mississippi and beyond.
