I love the Giants. Always have. They are as great this year as ever, except for one thing: they are losing too many games. But this year, I think the Giants are really entitled to go to the World Series. They got rid of Bonds, they have a great new attitude. It is their time to go to the World Series.
There is this pesky matter of winning games, but many of those games don’t really matter. Milwaukee is really just a small town in Wisconsin and, no offense, but they just don’t matter. The losses against Milwaukee really don’t count.
Also, Barry Zito was a huge mistake. I mean, we spent something like $250 million on him and he has lost all five of his games this year. So those Barryy Zito losses don’t count.
Right now the Giants are 8-12, but if you take out the 5 games that Zito lost and the three that we lost to Milwaukee we are really 8-4. However, because I want to be completely fair about this, one of the losses to Milwaukee was a Zito game, so really we are 8-5.
But here is the important thing to remember: The Giants are SECOND in the league in stolen bases. Everyone loves the excitement of team speed, so in one sense, the Giants are really in second place.
What baseball needs are some superdelegates who can see that sending the Diamondbacks to the World Series would be a disaster. They would be crushed. I don’t want to suggest that baseball is generally dishonored when a team from a small state like Arizona (that doesn’t really matter) goes to the World Series, but we know that the American League will keep pounding away at it.
So lets be smart and just send the Giants to the World Series. After all, they are 8-4, they are second in stolen bases and, most of all, they are entitled.
Go Giants.
