Activists across the country are changing the face of progressive politics. But even in the heat of a Presidential election year, progressives are working locally -- doing everything they can to take their country back from the bottom-up, even in the most historically conservative states. Texas progressives and the Texas blogosphere provide a great example of this kind of activism....
So this year, Netroots Nation is coming to Texas.
And because activism starts locally, we’re proud to announce that at this year’s conference in Austin, July 17–20, we’ll feature a series of panels, discussions and workshops that will highlight the accomplishments of the vibrant Texas Netroots activist community. Too often discounted by institutional politics and traditional media, local progressive bloggers and activists have been working every day toward building a new progressive reality.
Organized by and composed of local activists, the Texas Track will provide examples and explorations of how powerful any one person or group can be.
We’re developing new programming every day, but so far, Texans at Netroots Nation can explore topics such as:
- Pressuring a state legislature effectively
- Using blogs as ethical watchdogs
- Engaging historically disenfranchised communities
As we explored the progressive community of our Southern hosts, it only made sense to use their work as an example for all. But our local programming won’t end with Texas -- stay tuned for information about other sessions on regional and state-level organizing, as well as announcements about keynotes and special guests.
