Yes, I realize that this is a mostly rhetorical question around these parts, but I know that I do. The question, then, is how we get it.
I'm reminded of the adage, "Think globally, act locally." As a result, I'm taking matters into my own hands and riding in my local Clean Air Adventure, the Clean Air Challenge 120! This is a 120-mile bicycle ride over two days to raise money for the American Lung Association.
If you're interested in sponsoring me on this ride, you can do so by clicking here. More information about the ride and why it accomplishes the goal below the jump.
First, the ride: the start and end point is Houston, AK with Talkeetna, AK as our overnight. Yes, we're riding outside of "major" cities, but the reward is getting to stay at the Talkeetna Lodge and, weather willing, have a fabulous view of Denali (also called Mount McKinley, but that's its white-man name).
As for what your supporting (by clicking here), the American Lung Association supports the treatment of lung disease as well as prevention. The local organization has supported the successful fight to make all indoor Anchorage businesses smoke-free, and is fighting to keep the IM program in effect.
So if you're interested in helping to make change at the local level, support me in the Clean Air Challenge! And, if you're motivated, get out and ride your bike somewhere instead of driving; you'll feel better about yourself and your environment.
