Former Congressman Jim Slattery is making his way through Kansas today officially announcing his candidacy for the US Senate against Pat Roberts (R).
Slattery for Senate has launched an unbelievable website, beautifully designed (complete with amazing video) showcasing his history of leadership and his life as a Kansan. I've spent the past year poking fun at websites in state and the extent to which people seem far removed from the web 2.0 explosion that has captured everyone in the country except for Kansas. Slattery's team gets technology. Perhaps that's because he's 200 years younger than his opponent. Or because Joe Trippi is consulting.
Either way, Slatts is armed with a well made website, a good chunk of money raised in just 12 days, and a score of Kansans who are grateful to see someone with his caliber at the top of the ticket.
"My mother and father taught me to accept personal responsibility, to think independently, and that each of us has the power to make our community better," Slattery said during a rally at Heritage Hall in Topeka. "It is in this spirit that I announce my candidacy for the United States Senate."
Slattery said he had decided to run because the U.S. Senate was "simply not getting the job done."
He said the nation's economy was unstable, reliance on foreign oil had created a national security crisis and the country was engaged in a "tragic and costly war" in Iraq." Topeka Cap Journal
Slattery went further to recognize the dedication that current members have in caring for the world they leave behind. With slash and burn politics setting the trend, Slattery proposes more responsible approaches to build a stronger and more stable country.
"Slattery, a former six-term congressman from Topeka, decried the run-up to the war in Iraq, America’s faulty health-care system, the failure to more aggressively address the environment, and runaway spending that he termed "generational robbery."
"Never before in our history has one generation stolen so much money from the next generation," Slattery told Wyandotte County Democrats at The Woodlands." The Kansas City Star
Its refreshing to see someone so connected to other people's lives.
