Obama seems to me to be revising his history with Wright on the fly in a way that does not seem likely to be truthful, in my opinion.
Obama seems to me to be revising his history with Wright on the fly in a way that does not seem likely to be truthful, in my opinion. That is more disquieting to me than the fact of the relationship.
Obama claims no knowledge of all the outrageous sermon comments, e.g.: AIDs, "God Damn America", etc. Says he wasn't in church that day.
If your pastor said God Damn America, don't you think someone in your congregation would tell you? If he popped up with the crackpot AIDS theory, wouldn't there be a groundswell to remove him? Wouldn't people in your church be leaving the parish?
Prior to announcing for president, one could easily state that Wright was the single biggest influence on Obama in his adult life. The "Audacity of Hope" quote is from a Wright sermon. The reverend married him and baptized his children. By all accounts they had a close personal relationship.
Do you think that Wright never expressed these wacky theories to his friend? He was tepid in person and looney in public? Isn't that the opposite of most human behavior?
Obama disinvited Wright from his candidacy announcement. If all these wacky views are a sudden revelation, why did he do that more than a year ago?
It is unsettling to me that Obama comes from a culture where these sort of statements are made and accepted, and people like Farrakhan are honored. And the comparison to his grandmother is weak. You CHOOSE your spiritual guide. You CHOOSE to stay with them based on your agreement with his philosophy. You CHOOSE to have him be a leading influence on your children.
Personally, I think he is now unelectable. Wright is going to be on TV every day for the next six months if his obvious love of the camera and anger at Obama continues (the last undoubtedly heightened by Obama's throwing him under the bus in the last 24 hours).
