I have a love-hate relationship with the Charlie Rose show. Right now I'm in hate mode. Over the years some of the best political interviews on television have been conducted at his round table. Even though Rose's ego is usually front and center. In spite of his prominent ego, in fact.
But Charlie seems to be more out of control lately - I think it's worse since he came back from his illness last year. I've considered pulling out a stopwatch and timing how much of his show is taken up with him talking as opposed to his guest(s) talking. Some nights it seems like it's more Charlie and his self-important opinions than anything else. And the constant interruptions are just infuriating. Tonight, for example, he's talking with Arianna Huffington (who's looking fabulous, by the way). She's being patient and courteous. But Charlie just can't shut up. He won't let her finish a sentence. He's downright confrontational. And she doesn't deserve it, in my view. Makes me wonder why folks are so willing to appear with him. You have to fight to be heard. I wish he'd just ask a simple question, then step aside and turn the microphone over to the guest. Just shut up for a minute, Charlie. Geez.
