One of the things I truly enjoy about Daily Kos is the opportunity it affords me to learn of out of area candidates who represented reasoned progressive positions. I have donated generously and often to many candidates based upon a 'heads up' received here on DKos.
The list includes, but is FAR from limited to:
Rick Noriega
Darcy Burner
Donna Edwards
Mark Pera
Andrew Horne
Andrew Rice
Doug Denneny
We received so many Christmas cards from out of state politicians this year my husband started laughing as they came in asking me if I remembered who this guy/gal was. If I didn't it was no problem because I knew when I had read the request for funds I had linked onto the candidates page and was comfortable with the majority of their positions.
However, while reading a diary today about Mr. Noriega's campaign for Senate, I had second thoughts.
I've watched the negative impact of the Clinton campaign on Obama and the Democratic Party with concern. Of particular dismay to me has been the "What, me worry?" response from any Democratic candidates, elected officials and superdelegates who seem to be either too naive or timid to take public actions to minimize the effects of the Clinton's scorched earth tactics.
I've committed to a fund-raiser for our next Gov. here in New Mexico. A woman I greatly admire though she is a Clinton super-delegate. I am also working a fundraiser for a candidate for U.S. Representative...but after that no more.
Unless a candidate has declared for Obama my checkbook will remain closed and my credit card will stay cold. I will also encourage others to do the same. This is not so much about Clinton not becoming President, because she can't. Its about putting a stop to the damage the Clinton's are doing while they persist in what is now a futile quest.
A small thing in the big picture, I know. But if enough of these small things happen perhaps more of the individuals who are supposed to be leading us to victory will recognize that its time to really lead.
