HRC and her fans didn't have much of an agenda besides making her president. Despite claims to the contrary, it was her that ran the personality driven campaign, her toughness, her intelligence, her experience, her husband.
And one of the destructive aspects about HRC 08 is that is is based so little on issues. It's about her as president, about being against Obama, and about wedge politics, and about victimization, and about her electability.
Because HRC 08 defined that way, it's tough to suddenly join the group defined as victimizers and the side across from the wedge.
It's not like Obama can offer HRC fans their favorite issue to get support. Because there isn't one as far as I know. I would have said "mandate" a month ago, but those dropped off the radar when HRC began the avenging angel of rural and working class whites. Gas tax holiday? Nuclear umbrellas for arab states?
In sum, you can hold out an olive branch, but HRC and her fans have no idea if they want to take it, indeed, whether they see it as a sign of weakness. It's their problem, not ours, to figure out what they want besides an Obama personal apology and withdrawal from the race.
Does this seem like a combative, not very conciliatory diary? It is. It is because when HRC says the battle isn't over, I believe her. It's still on. She's losing and can't win, but it's still on.
All I'm asking for is her terms for surrender. I'm waiting for HRC to send us a sign that she's going to Plan B. Till then, no olives and no branches besides the stick to beat her over the head.
