I've been reading what alot of people are saying about Sen Clinton lately and I'm struck by just how vengeful people seem to be.
But I have to confess, I think people are taking it completely too far.
Before the comments start, I am not a Clinton supporter, I voted for Obama in Missouri's primairy, have donated and hell I even tried canvasing on my own for him in the middle of rural Missouri.
But all that said I really think people are engaging in the exact behavior that should be avoided
Why do I say that?
Because while Clinton's comments while offense and divisive and her actions while arrogant and egotisical; are truely not racist.
The fact is that a good percent of the United States simply won't elect a black man.
The fact is that Clinton has indeed won the 'white vote' in most contests.
The fact is that Clinton has managed to be more appealing to the so called Regan Democrats.
Those are the facts and while some of them are very ugly others just seem to be a part of what demographics she appeals to.
I personally find it offensive that in this day and age someone would still not vote for a person because of thier skin color or because of thier gender. But those prejudices still exist and perhaps they should be pointed out now instead of later.
As for the 'white vote' shrug I think most realize this is just triangulation and pointless BS. The Democratics are not going to win the 'white vote' come the fall and I think most realize that and more importantly this arguement changes no one's mind.
As for the Regan democrats, first who says they will be essential and secondly that Clinton has more appeal to them isn't that surprising. Remember her husband won them too and thus that demographic was just one of many advantages Clinton had.
Now I don't dispute that the Clinton campaign has been engaging on hypocrisy on a level so massive it makes my head spin.
I don't dispute that thier 'math' is so horrible and just plain wrong that I as a physcist, someone that has to live by math, just cringes in abject disgust.
I don't dispute that at her present course and heading Sen Clinton seems determined to win at any cost even if it fractures the Democratic party to such an extent that it is rendered impotent for the foreseeable future.
Those too are facts, but at the same time I'd like to point out something. In the normal course of events this spin and these claims (ie spining the facts) are exactly what you'd see out of any typical politican.
And really should we have expected any less but endless triangulation?
Should we have expected that a person that prides herself on being a fighter on not giving up till 'the last dog dies' would settle for anything but the nomination?
Everything Clinton has done, is in large part keeping with her past and her past actions and as such was predictable. That though doesn't make anything she's done racist, it just means as in the past the Clintons have taken the route they feel was most likely to get results.
So where is this racism that people speak of? Have people forgotten so quickly all the work the Clintons did over the years helping out blacks? Or that Mr. Clinton was so well liked by them that he was called 'the first black president of the USA'?
So what is this action I spoke of? It's hate, hate changes nothing and prevents things from changing. Sen Clinton is a politican and she never promised to run on Obama's 'new style of politics' and even if she had all the information we have should have screamed at us that she would only act as she has in the past.
So as this thing winds down, don't waste your time hating Clinton because: first it changes nothing, she is who is she and that includes saying and doing anything to win; secondly because hate blinds people to the good and hardens them only to the bad; and lastly because any such hate is pointless, it achieves nothing and is a self fulfilling propechy if you think someone is purposefully slighting you for any reason then eventually that is what happens as you react as if you're being slighted or insulted.
