First diary, eva...think I'm supposed to mention this little piece of trivia....
Ok, so I'm watching you, KO. Friday nite. Same time, same Bat channel. And, it hits me. Keith Olbermann may have been (and continues to be )our first ray of hope, our glimpse of salvation for the progressives outside of the dKos community.
"So what", you say?? "We already KNOW that ...tell us something that we don't know, already!'
Yep, we KNOW it, and we appreciate the significance of Keith Olbermann, in the sense that we worry obsessively (myself included) when a recent diary he wrote didn't get the tips that we attempted to give him, anxiously waiting for his Tip Jar to fill to overflowing capacity. And, when they didn't appear, BAM...a diary pops up to express our ultimate sorrow and despair, just to make sure that KO doesn't get the wrong impression about the dKos community; that we've foresaken him somehow and neglected to show our appreciation of his righteous defense of the loyal and patriotic Americans who watch him.
You see, KO, you express so eloquently our deepest concerns, our deepest emotions...out there...out there in the media realm of our television sets that we've tried for years to penetrate: yelling, screaming, even physically throwing whatever loose items that were within our reach. It is our desperate attempt to have our voices be heard. YOU have brokered the agreement, built the bridge, forged the path that gives us, here at dKos and millions beyond, a way for our voice to be heard. Markos has given us the means to form a community, of which we have sought some sense of sanity, compassion and solidarity...you have given us the means to send our voices out for the rest of America to hear. And, Obama has given us hope, that our passion and love for this country is not in vain or lost or to be cynically dismissed as pipe dreams and idealism of an America that never was and is never meant to be.
I, more than you'll ever know, appreciate your defiance in the harsh and persistent glare of the media-glomerate. I, and I'm sure many here at dKos, came to almost physically NEED your program each night, just for some confirmation that I wasn't losing my sense of right and wrong. What a relief it was to hear you speak truth to my perception of what I was seeing and hearing from the Bush administration and almost every media outlet. I hardly believed you weren't a figment of my imagination.
Yes, Keith, you are that important to this diarist and I'm sure to most of the dKos community, for you and your guests (of which Rachel Maddow is a favorite) have given us the sense of hope that we've also found in Barack Obama, in his bid for the most important, most valued role of President of the United States of America.
Idealistic? Emotionally-based nonsense? Flighty sentimentality? Maybe. But, it is why we all convene here at dkos...to try to lay it all out, dissect it, analyze it, argue about it and even at times mocked it, abuse it and snark it. Sanity, yes, and empathy, as well, in it's most purest and most honest form. You, KO, have helped me, along with many of the dKos community, maintain this sanity and for that, I can't thank you enough.
