TPM managed to listen in on a "private" Clinton conference call with Super Delegates where she tried to reassure them not to abandon her yet, because "it's not over yet." That's not all that surprising considering she wants to continue, so while it's sort of baffling, it's at least consistent with previous behavior.
In any case, that's not what my question is about. This is something that she's suggested before in other ways, but for some reason given the circumstances and the slight variation in what she said, a question occurred to me.
Here's what she said that interested me according to TPM:
"I know this is not easy," Hillary said. She added: "We will close ranks and I know we will be totally unified going forward."
So, my question is, if she "knows" that we will be totally unified going forward, why can't Obama win "whites" or "working class whites" as she claims to have? After all, if we're going to "close ranks" and basically combine supporters, according to her, wouldn't that suggest that Obama CAN win these voters then?
In a way, this should actually convince Super Delegates to just continue endorsing Obama. Clinton is assuring us that we'll close ranks and unite going into November. If that's the case, then there's simply no reason why she has any claim at all to the nomination.
