John Edwards' speech was one of the most sexist, condescending, patronizing speeches I have ever heard in my life...
NO MORE BURKHAS!!!
How is it that, for years, Hillary Clinton has been working in strong advocacy regarding the very issues John Edwards claims are near and dear to his heart: lifting people out of poverty and universal healthcare, and that she was foremost in ensuring that her campaign addressed these issues, but that John Edwards endorsed Barack Obama, a candidate who, to the best of my knowledge, has done little, if anything at all, to address these issues during his time in the senate?
I think Hillary's problem is that she is lacking body parts - you know, the ones that give you "brains," "good judgment," "an ability to earn a living wage to provide for your family," and an aptitude for closing big business deals.
I think that John Edwards' speech today was one of the most sexist, condescending, patronizing speeches I have ever heard in my life - condescending and patronizing not only to Hillary Clinton as a woman who is more than equal to the Presidency and more qualified for the Presidency, than all of the men who have run against her, including both John Edwards and Barack Obama. And, the timing of his endorsement of Barack Obama was such that I believe that John Edwards made this calculated move at a moment he thought would be most effective in putting his hand on Hillary Clinton's head, diminishing her and effectively diminishing all women in this country to, ONCE AGAIN, push us downward. He tried to land shoe tracks all over her tremendous landslide victory in West Virginia last night, but he failed to do so just as he failed to get the voters of this country to elect him to the Presidency.
Bitter grapes? Sour grapes? Rotten grapes?
I believe that if Hillary Clinton were a man, she would already have the nomination because she is and has been the MOST qualified candidate from the start of this race. In fact, I believe that if Barack Obama was in Hillary Clinton's exact place in this election right now and their positions were reveresed, Barack Obama would still have received the endorsements he has received because I don't think his standing in the race mattered at all to most who have endorsed him. I think it was just that he was the only man left in the race.
And, isn't it interesting that men who ran against Hillary Clinton have come out for another MAN in the race? Who among them have endorsed Hillary Clinton even though all of them have commended her excellent work on behalf of the American People and our country over many years? Bill Richardson? NO! Chris Dodd? NO! John Edwards? NO!
John Edwards repeatedly said in his speech, "There is one MAN who..." "...one MAN who...' MAN...MAN...MAN... Why didn't he say "the best candidate?" as opposed to the best "MAN?" There are even women who do not think a woman should be President. It is astounding. We now have female doctors and judges and surgeons and military officers and they are, AT THE LEAST, as COMPETENT as their male counterparts!
I remember when Hillary Clinton became emotional in New Hampshire and some of the media which has been so biased against Hillary Clinton from the beginning crucified her for it. John Edwards implied that Hillary Clinton was UNFIT for the Presidency because she allowed her emotions to show. Yet, John Edwards, himself, has wept in public as has GW Bush and other men in politics.
I remember when I was so put off by what seemed to me to be Barack Obama minimizing Hillary Clinton, and all women, for that matter, when he said her "experience" in the White House during President Bill Clinton's tenure consisted of having "tea parties" when, in reality, she was undergoing classified intelligence briefings and was being sent on important Diplomatic missions in representation of the United States, speaking with and to leaders of other countries and chairing the President's Task Force on Healthcare and presenting before Congress. She spoke out against the abuses of women and girls around the world and the killing of female babies in China and the degradation of women and young girls at the hands of men. She has worked to end female genital mutilation and has helped to give a "hand up" to the impoverished and has given a strong voice to the voiceless and the despairing in our country and in the world. She made positive differences in peoples' daily lives. And, yet, Barack Obama said she was giving "tea parties."
THIS RACE IS NOT OVER BY ANY STRETCH OF THE IMAGINATION! I think Hillary Clinton should take this to the convention floor, if necessary, which is her right to do and fight for the votes of ALL of the women in the room and of the men who have actually made it into the new millenium, leaving the "dark ages" behind them when men dragged "their" women from cave to cave by their hair.
Barack Obama does not have sufficient delegates to reach the finish line in this race. Neither candidate does. So, what is the next thing we look at? The popular vote which, once the votes of the Florida and Michigan voters are counted, Hillary Clinton will have. She is the ONLY candidate that can get the White House back for the Democrats. She has carried the entire Democratic base. She has carried the swing states that are critical for winning the White House, she has won the areas of this country that give her a wide edge on the electoral map in taking back the White House for the Democrats who have suffered and waited for this for so very long.
Hillary Clinton will have my vote no matter what. If her name is not on the General Election ballot, I will WRITE-IN Hillary Clinton's name. She has EARNED this Presidency and nobody should try to unfairly deny her that.
