I've been reading various posts and watching the videos about John McCain, the Republican nominee for president, since before he got the (presumtive) nomination. Hell, I've been following the R's since they had a full field of whackos candidates competing for the coveted conservative nomination. Back then I thought to myself, "This is the best they've got? This ought to be a piece of cake." Now that McCain moved to the front, I find myself asking, "Is this the best they've got?" Sometimes I catch myself laughing, especially when another video of him in a McCain moment pops up.
Then the humor passes and the worry starts. I remind myself that us bloggers are far more passionate about our politics than the average American citizen. That what we consider old news, unless covered by the MSM, may not have been seen by the average "man on the street." That there are still people upset with Obama about Rev. Wright while at the same time claiming that he's a Muslim.
Then I get distracted by seeing or hearing something about McCain. This war-mongering, tempermental, forgetful flip-flopper has a shot at the presidency. A real chance. While we're still hammering out the Democratic party details, he's getting free pass after free pass on every thing he does and everything he has ever done because he's a war hero?
Remember when he called his wife the "c" word in front of witnesses? Remember when accusations of an affair with a subordinate arose and he got a free pass by essentially saying "I've already answered those questions, I have nothing else to add?" Do you want a hot-headed mysoginist with his finger on the button? Would you REALLY rather vote for him because your cherished Democratic candidate isn't the nominee? Edwards was my first choice, and now I'm an Obama supporter. I didn't get all whiny because Edwards dropped out, I moved on for the good of the country. I moved on because the future of these little guys matters more than my hurt feelings.
I've tried to include some of the better McCain clips I've come across in the hopes that you, the carriers of the torch for our chlidren and grandchildren, will have a one-stop place to go to for them. I know you've probably seen some of these before, but take another look at them, and tell me, is John McCain really so bad?
