With only an announcement former Rep. Jim Slattery is just within reach of Sen. Pat Roberts with tons of time to make up the rest.
According to a recently released Rasmussen Poll
"The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Kansas voters found Roberts leading Slattery 52% to 40%.
The incumbent leads Slattery by twenty-one points among male voters, but just six percent among women.
The Democratic challenger leads Roberts by three points among unaffiliated voters. Roberts earns the vote from 82% of Republicans while Slattery attracts 75% of Democrats.
From an ideological perspective, the candidates are tied at 46% among moderate voters.
Roberts is viewed favorably by 60% of Kansas voters and unfavorably by 34%. Slattery’s numbers are 46% favorable, 38% unfavorable, and 17% of voters are not sure."
What this means is that Jim is within a stones throw of beating Pat Roberts. And this summer when he spends time talking with the people of Kansas those numbers are only going to grow higher.
An amazing public servant, Jim Slattery has long supported the people of Kansas and helped build some of the greatest leaders we have today.
In a press release just sent by the campaign
""This is a clear indication that Kansans want change," Slattery said, "and I anticipate this race will only become more competitive."
Given the fact that Roberts has been in DC since Neil Armstrong landed on the moon and I have only been in the race six weeks, we are very encouraged by these numbers," Slattery said."
According to the Atchison Daily News
"Mr. Slattery said he looks forward to discussing his campaign in his hometown and across Kansas, meeting residents and hearing issues they are concerned about.
He said right now, America most needs leadership committed to working with both parties, balancing the nation's budget and existing within its means.
"The old politics of the past is failing us," Mr. Slattery said. "We have to make changes in Washington."
