I don't fly that often, but I recall running into intense scrutiny in August 2004, September 2004 and October 2004, and again in October 2006.
My 89 year old mother routinely gets searched since 9/11/2001, since she usually has a one way ticket. A plastic comb was seized from her on one occasion.
And we all remember the terrorist alerts throughout 2004, while the Kerry campaign never once asked why George W. never bothered to talk to his dad and to James Baker about Iraq. And I don't recall any journalists asking just what "intelligence" was responsible for the increasing alerts as we approached Election Day--other than Olbermann.
And never mind that the next terrorist attack--some problems can only be managed, not solved--will likely not resemble the last successful or unsucessful ones.
So when will the GOP use its current claque in the Pentagon and in the disgraceful roster of "experts" who got it all wrong to start up the fearmongering again? And by the way, is anyone else outraged that people like Wolfowitz, Feith, Perle, Yoo, et al. are rewarded with government and academic appointments? I just recently noted that Yoo is at Berkeley. I am going to check into my law school this week and if they have hired any of these goons, I am going to start an e-mail campaign to
stop donations.
Timing is everything. Personally, I think Obama should be saying something about this before it starts. And it has already started from the Clinton camp a long time ago.
Could Barack just tell us the truth? You cannot eliminate terrorists like a swarm of bees. It's a problem that can be managed, not solved.
I think he should start talking about this before the terrorist alert starts Memorial Day. (Labor Day is too obvious. July 4th may be too obvious as well.)
At least some of his surrogates should be talking about this, as in, why did we see all those alerts back in 2004 and 2006 and when will we start to see them again?
