In another great strategic move from a campaign that has had many, the Obama campaign will spend its big night pivoting from the nominating contest to the general election with a prime-time speech on Tuesday night live from Iowa.
Yes, Iowa. It's where it all began in January and not only does it thank Iowa for launching this historic campaign but it helps Obama begin to win this crucial state. Even though it went for Bush in '04, there is little doubt that Iowa can be easily flipped in November. So while Oregon puts him over the top in pledged delegates, Obama will be celebrating in Iowa.
The schedule still says "TBA." But barring a last-minute change, Senator Obama plans to be in IOWA on Tuesday night when he clinches a majority of available pledged delegates. This is a red state he's hoping to turn blue, so the intended message is that he's getting to work on the general - NOT taking a victory lap. Political Geographer Jonathan Martin says the Hawkeye State appears to be Obama's BEST chance to flip a state that went for President Bush last time. In 2004, Iowa went Bush 50, Kerry 49. In 2000, it went Gore 49, Bush 48, Nader 2.

According to the most recent poll, Research 2000 has Obama +8 over McCain in an Iowa poll from 4/21-4/23. Sorry Grandpa, Iowa is definitely going to be Obama country in 2008! I can't wait to hear the speech he will give Tuesday night!
UPDATE: In case you didn't notice, a certain person's name is not in this diary (hint: she voted for the war like john mccain) but in case you care, she has canceled remaining appearances in Oregon to focus
on Kentucky where she will be primary night May 20 celebrating her expected win.
